Owl’s Brew – Craft Tea Cocktail Mixer

www.theowlsbrew.com

This week on #bensbestbars we take a break from the bar and check out a DYI cocktail mixer known as Owl’s Brew. This craft cocktail mixer made with tea, herbs and spices. I was excited when OB contacted me about sending in some product and was very curious to try it out. To keep it simple I just mixed OB with the recommended booze so we all could get an overall view of how the mixer actually tasted. Below are some of the cocktails I created with Owl’s Brew.

Coco-Lada:

You can mix this one with rum, mezcal, any neutral spirit, champagne or stout beer. Flavor profile is black tea, coconut, chai and pineapple. For my cocktail I went with Rum Zacapa (one of my favorites) and mixed it 2 parts OB and 1 part rum. The taste was refreshing, it would be a great cocktail to sip on while chilling outside on a sunny day. Overall it was pretty good. 3.5 out of 5.
The Classic:
You can mix this one with gin, vodka or any neutral spirit. Flavor profile is english breakfast tea, lemon and lime. Since this one was called the classic I decided to go with a classy gin. I mixed my cocktail 2 parts OB and 1 part Hendrick’s. The taste was well balanced and I was quite surprised that Breakfast Tea would make a good cocktail. Overall it was good. 3 out of 5.

Pink & Black:

You can mix this one with whiskey, tequila, white wine or amber ale. Flavor profile is darjeeling, hibiscus, lamina peel and strawberry. When I read that this mix called for a whiskey, I immediately went for Woodford Reserve. Woodford is a great bourbon for mixed cocktails because of the smokey wood taste. Pink & Black calls for a 2 part OB and 1 part Bourbon. The fruit notes in the PB really blend well with the bold flavors of bourbon. A very well balanced cocktail.  Overall this one was by far my favorite out of the 3 mixers. 4.5 out of 5.

Final Thoughts:

Overall I was really impressed with Owl’s Brew Craft Cocktail Tea,  and have to admit I was skeptical. It was very easy to mix the drinks. This a cool item to add to your craft cocktail rotation and best part is that you can do it at home. If I had to pick out of the 3 I would go for the Pink & Black.
